DİZ OSTEOARTRİT HASTALARINDA SERUM SALUSİN- ΑLFA VE SALUSİN-ΒETA DÜZEYLERİ Serum Salusin-Αlpha and Salusin-Βeta Levels in Patients with Knee Osteoarthritis

Year 2020, Volume: 10 Issue: 2, 184 - 188, 08.06.2020

Abstract

ABSTRACT
Aim: Osteoarthritis (OA) is a major musculoskeletal disease with high prevalence in the elderly. It is
characterised by the painful loss of articular cartilage and is polygenic and multifactorial. In this study, we
aimed to investigate serum salusin-α and salusin-β levels in patients with knee osteoarthritis.
Materials and Methods: Serum samples were obtained from 38 healthy subjects and 35 knee osteoarthrit
patients. Salusin-α and salusin-β levels were determined by ELISA in serum samples.
Results: Serum salusin-α levels were significantly decreased in the OA group (2569±839 pg/ml) compared to
the control group (3131±1066 pg/ml) (p=0.0136). Similarly, serum salusin-β levels were lower in OA group
(708±207 pg/ml) than in control group (1027±448 pg/ml) (p=0.0002).
Conclusion: Serum salusin-α and salusin-β levels decreased in patients with knee osteoarthritis, correlated
with each other. Further investigations are needed to understand the molecular mechanisms associated with
low serum levels of salusins in knee OA.
