Abstract

Year 2023, Volume: 6 Issue: 1, 71 - 75, 01.01.2023

Abstract

This study was conducted to determine the needs of critically ill relatives who addmited to the emergency service. This descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted in the emergency department of a training and research hospital with 290 relatives of critically ill patients between January 1 and May 30, 2022. The data were collected by the personal information form that was prepared by the researchers and the Critical Care Family Needs Inventory for Emergency Departments with face-to-face interview technique. It was determined that communication with family members (3.75±0.39) was prior in the order of the needs of critically ill patients' relatives and it was followed by family members' participation in emergency care (3.57±0.45), support of family members (3.48±0.51) and comfort (3.38±0.63). The total score of the scale was determined as 3.56±0.42. It was observed that the needs of critically ill patients' relatives in emergency department were compatible with the basic needs of humans. The quality of health care services and the satisfaction of patients' relatives can be increased by determining the needs of individuals with critically ill relatives in the emergency department, treating patients' relatives as a part of care, ensuring their inclusion in patient care, providing support to patients' relatives.
