Pediatri hemşireliği dersi alan öğrencilerin pediatrik ağrı yönetimi bilgi düzeyleri ile ağrı yönetimi öz yeterlilik düzeyleri arasındaki ilişkinin incelenmesi

Year 2022, Volume: 3 Issue: 2, 52 - 58, 30.09.2022

Abstract

Investigation of the relationship between pediatric pain management knowledge levels and pain management self-efficacy levels of students taking pediatric nursing courses

Year 2022, Volume: 3 Issue: 2, 52 - 58, 30.09.2022

Abstract

Aim: This study aimed to investigate the relationship between pediatric pain management knowledge levels and pain management self-efficacy levels of students taking pediatric nursing courses.
Materials and Methods: The sample of this study, which was designed in descriptive, cross-sectional and correlational types, consisted of 123 students who took the Child Health and Diseases Nursing Course. Sociodemographic Information Form, Pediatric Pain Management Knowledge Scale for Nursing Students and Self-Efficacy Scale in Pain Management were used to collect the data.
Results: The mean age of the students was 21.80 ± 1.44 years, and 72.4% were female. 63.4% of the students had a GPA between 3.01-4.0, 96.7% of those who did not receive prior training on pain and 50.0% of those who received education attended the seminar. The mean score of the Pediatric Pain Management Knowledge Scale students was 112.73 ± 11.26, and the average score from the Self-Efficacy Scale in Pain Management was 75.21 ± 10.92. It was observed that there was a moderately positive (r=0.319, p<0.01) and statistically significant relationship between the Pediatric Pain Management Knowledge Scale and the Pain Management Self-Efficacy Scale.
Conclusion: Pain management in children is a significant public health problem worldwide. A nurse's knowledge of pain management in children can affect her self-efficacy. The current study found a statistically significant relationship between self-efficacy and knowledge of pain management in children. Therefore, conducting studies with different samples on the subject is recommended.
