Comparison of pain, fatigue, sleep and quality of life in drivers using different type vehicles

Year 2019, Volume: 6 Issue: 2, 104 - 111, 23.08.2019

Abstract

Purpose: Driving in a long-term static posture can cause
problems in the musculoskeletal system. Increased musculoskeletal problems can
lead to increase in pain and fatigue levels and impaired sleep and quality of
life. Previous studies have generally focused on the drivers using one type of
vehicle. Therefore, the aim of our study is to examine pain, fatigue, sleep and
quality of life in drivers of different types of vehicles.

Methods: A total of 90 drivers were included in our study,
including 30 taxis, 30 minibus and 30 bus drivers using vehicles actively for
at least one year. Pain severity, fatigue and sleep status of individuals with Visual
Analogue Scale, the effect of neck pain on daily living activities with the
Neck Disability Index, disability caused by pain with the Oswestry Low Back
Disability Questionnaire, and the quality of life with the Nottingham Health
Profile were evaluated. The results of measurements was compared between the three
groups.

Results: All participants were male. There was a statistically
significant difference between the groups in favor of minibus drivers with
regard to pain intensity at rest (p<0.05), but no difference was found
between the groups in terms of pain intensity in activity, fatigue severity,
severity of sleep problems, disability level and quality of life (p>0.05).

Conclusion: Our research is important because of comparing drivers
using three different types of vehicles. In our study, no significant
differences between the groups in the rest of the parameters investigated
except for pain at rest, and although the type of vehicle used was different, indicate
that drivers may face similar problems.

Farklı tipte araç kullanan sürücülerde ağrı, yorgunluk, uyku ve yaşam kalitesinin karşılaştırılması

Year 2019, Volume: 6 Issue: 2, 104 - 111, 23.08.2019

Abstract

kalitelerinde azalmaya neden olabilir. Daha önce yapılan çalışmalar genellikle
tek tip araç kullanan sürücüler üzerine odaklanmıştır. Bu nedenle çalışmamızın
amacı farklı tipte araç kullanan sürücülerde ağrı, yorgunluk, uyku ve yaşam
kalitesinin incelenmesidir.
