Abstract

Objective: To investigate the experiences of the oncology clinic nurses.
Method: Research is a descriptive study in qualitative properties. The sample of the study consisted of 11 nurses working in a State Hospital Oncology Clinic. Data were collected with a questionnaire and semi-structured interview form, numbers and percentages were used in descriptive questions, and semi-structured interviews were analyzed with content analysis.
Results: Nurses working at the clinic had an average of 35.81±7.04 years, were female, married and 90.9% had children, 54.5% of whom chose the nursing profession willingly. Nurses in the 3-29-year period of vocational work, 36.4% of nurses had a chronic disease, and 54.5% of them were working the night shift. All of the nurses stated that caffeine consumption increased during work and 90.9% said that they couldn't sleep enough. There were two smokers, and only one person exercised 3 days a week, all using various methods to deal with stress. The results of the discussions were analyzed by content analysis, and seven themes were obtained. Identified themes were “Concern about working in Oncology”, “Complex feelings for patients”, “Curiosity about the patients' prognosis”, “Sadness for patients”, “The patients' contribution to the nurses”, “The importance of teamwork” and “Recommendations for patients”.
Conclusion: The nurses working at the oncology clinic experienced various emotions and experiences during the work process that required the difficulty and precision of the department. The findings obtained from the study are thought to be a guide to the management of the disease for oncology clinic patients and nurses in that clinic.

Onkoloji Kliniğinde Görev Yapan Hemşirelerin Deneyimleri

Year 2023, Volume: 6 Issue: 2, 319 - 328, 01.09.2023
https://doi.org/10.38108/ouhcd.1172299

Abstract

Bulgular: Araştırmaya katılan hemşireler 26-47 yaş aralığında, tamamı kadın, evli ve %90.9’u çocuk sahibi, %54.5’i hemşirelik mesleğini isteyerek seçmişti. Mesleki çalışma yılı 3-29 yıl aralığında, hemşirelerin %36.4’ü kronik hastalığa sahipti, %54.5’i gece vardiyasında çalışmaktaydı.
