PSYPHYSICAL EXAMINATION AND RADIOLOGICAL EVALUATION OF GLOMUS TUMORS WITH A CASE

Yıl 2021, Cilt: 2 Sayı: 1, 30 - 32, 30.04.2021

Glomus tumors are rare mesenchymal tumors. Although they are benign tumors, they cause intense local pain. It can be seen anywhere on the body. However, they mostly occur in the upper extremity, especially in the subungal regions. Because they are rare and very small, they may not be diagnosed for many years or they can be followed up with false diagnoses. In this case report, the results of a 34-year-old female patient who came to the outpatient clinic with complaints of long-lasting pain in her thumb and cold intolerance are presented. The clinical examination, x-ray and magnetic resonance imaging results of the patient suggested the pre-diagnosis of a glomus tumor located in the thumb subungal region. Excision was required for the pathological diagnosis of the lesion. After surgical excision, the diagnosis of glomus tumor was finalized, and the patient's complaints disappeared. Awareness of diagnosis is needed to prevent delay in treatment of glomus tumor. Surgical excision is the most effective treatment method after a correct diagnosis. Magnetic resonance imaging is superior to other imaging methods in accurate diagnosis, in guiding the surgeon in the preoperative period, and in the evaluation of recurrence in the postoperative period.
