Abortus and ethics

Özet

Tıbbi etik, tıp ve teknoloji alanında ortaya çıkan gelişmelerine ve bunlara, bağlı olan bilimsel sonuçların etik düzlemde meydana getirdiği kapsamlı sorunların irdelenmesi üzerinden gelişen etik alanıdır. Bugün yeni teknolojilerin gelişmesi gündeme etik ikilem kavramını getirmiştir. Bu konuda en çok yaşanılan ikilemler arasında üreme sağlığı önemli bir yer tutmaktadır. Bu derlemede üreme sağlığı ile ilişkili birçok etik ikilemin en önemlilerinden biri olan abortus ele alındı. Abortus fetüs yaşama yeteneği kazanmadan gebeliğin sonlanmasıdır. Kendiliğinden olmayan, dışarıdan etkilerle gerçekleşen abortus tıbbi etik alanında önemli tartışmaların nedenidir. Abortus, fetüsün yaşam hakkı ile ilgili etik ikileme yol açmaktadır. Bir yumurta ve sperm hücresinin birleşmesi ile oluşan intrauterin insan yaşamında fetüsün ne zaman yaşam hakkı kazandığı konusunda günümüzde de tartışmalar devam etmektedir. Fetüsün birey sayılıp sayılmayacağı konusunda farklı görüşler bulunmaktadır. Bu nedenle fetüsün yaşam hakkının elinden alınmasını içeren kürtaj var olduğu sürece etik tartışmaların da devam edeceği açıktır.

Abstract

Medical ethics is the area that develops over the extended scrutinization of the problems arisen from developments in medicine and science and scientific results related to this development. Today, the development of new technologies has led to the concept of ethical dilemma. There are many dilemmas encountered in reproductive health. In this review, we have discussed about abortus which is the most important one of ethical dilemmas about the reproductive health. An abortion is the termination of a pregnancy before the time fetus would have ability to live. Induced abortions are the important reasons of the discussions in medial ethical area. Abortion causes the ethics dilemma about fetus’ right to live. In intrauterine human life, which starts with the coming together of a sperm and ovum, discussions are still ongoing about when the fetus gets right to live. There are various opinions as to whether the fetus can be deemed as an individual or not. Therefore, so long as abortion involving the ending of the fetus' right to live exists, this kind of discussions will go on.

Medical ethics is the area or the field of ethics that comes into being over the assessment of extensive problems brought forth by the developments in medical science, biology and various technological developments. Today, the developmnet of new technologies have led to the concept of ethical dilemma. There are many dilemmas encountered in reproductive health. However, we are going to deal deal with abortus here within an ethical context.

The dilemmas encountered in fetus' rights in abortus is related to   fetus' right to live. There are various opinions as to whether the fetus can be deemed as  an individual or not. Undoubtedly human life starts with the coming together of a sperm and ovum and the right to live starts here. Therefore, so long as abortion involving the ending of the fetus' right to live exists, this kind of discussions will go on.
